To assist in their social and physical development every student is expected to take part actively in health and physical education lessons and to perform in interhouse competitions. Minor games, gymnastics, dancing and other fitness activities are incorporated in a comprehensive school physical education and sport program.
Children not participating in organised sport through illness will be required to engage in alternative school work. A doctor’s certificate is required for continuous non-participation in the physical education, sporting or swimming programs of the school.
Glenmore State School’s philosophy is that, while it is the aim of the game to win, the essence of any sporting activity is in the participation and striving to improve in the many sporting skills being developed.
Swimming year 4
DoE’s funded swimming consists of a learn-to-swim program for year four students, depending on the number of students. This is usually held in term one. All costs are covered by DoE until the student achieves the standard of the Swimmer's Certificate.
As swimming is considered an important part of our school curriculum, all students are expected to attend unless a medical certificate is provided. Incidental absences from swimming must be explained by the parent or carer.
Interschool sport
Students must be ten years old before they can participate in Friday afternoon interschool sporting competitions. While participating in school sport students are expected to wear the Glenmore State School uniform.
Interschool team sports are played against other schools in the district. These sports may include softball, tee ball, cricket, netball, rugby league, hockey, tennis and soccer.
School representatives can be selected to compete in district competitions across a number of sporting endeavours including cross country, track and field and swimming. From these competitions high performers are selected to represent the district at a regional level.
