Glenmore State School’s music program is based on the Kodaly concept. Kodaly educators believe that the learning process should start as early as possible through the learning and singing of unaccompanied songs.
At Glenmore State School students from Prep to Year four have two 30 minute lessons each week. The students in Year five and above have one 30 minute lesson each week. Students in Year two and above are expected to have a recorder, recorder book and music bag for their music lessons.
Choirs
Our school has two choirs; a Year three choir and a senior choir. The Year three choir practices in one of their lessons each week. The senior choir, which begins in Term Two to prepare for the Choral Festival, has a lunch time rehearsal. The choirs perform at school events like the Easter Bonnet Parade, Mother’s Day and Choral Festival. The students are expected to participate in all performances.
Instrumental music program
The instrumental music program is designed for children to have the opportunity to learn an orchestral instrument. Instruments offered at Glenmore State School come from the strings, woodwind, brass and percussion families. The program follows the Department of Education's guidelines for class sizes and course books.
From Year three children are offered the chance to audition for places in the instrumental music program. The children are then offered a position in the program depending on the instruments available and class sizes. In year four the children are expected to purchase their own instrument in order to continue in the program.
All children participating in the program are expected to join the school band or string ensemble when they have demonstrated proficiency. Our instrumental teacher visits the school two days a week. Lessons and band or ensemble rehearsals can occur during school time and before school. Children are expected to practise at home, and attend all school performances and rehearsals.
