Homework provides students with opportunities to consolidate their classroom learning, prepare for life long learning beyond the classroom and involve family members in their learning. The setting of homework takes into account the need for students to have a balanced lifestyle. This includes sufficient time for family, recreation and cultural pursuits.

Homework that is set at Glenmore State School will be varied, challenging, directly related to class work and appropriate to the students' learning needs. Teachers will set and check the homework, providing students with timely feedback. Teachers are happy to discuss any concerns regarding the homework being set, and are able to suggest strategies to assist with completing homework.

Prep to year three

In the early phase of learning homework will include daily reading. Additional tasks may include:

  • preparing for oral presentations
  • opportunities to write for meaningful purposes
  • revision of concepts covered in class.

Homework in prep to year three could take up to one hour per week.

Year four to year six

In the middle phase of learning homework can be completed daily, or over a weekly or fortnightly period. Homework may include:

  • daily independent reading
  • revision of concepts covered across different key learning areas
  • extension of class work including the completion of projects and research.

Homework in years four and five could take up to two to three hours per week.

Homework in years six could take up to three to four hours per week.
